Obituary for Lynette Margaret Smits
Lynette (Lyn) (McKenna) Smits (75) died peacefully Sunday, July 15, 2018 after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Lyn is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Paul, of West Hartford, CT and their children John and Nicola. Lyn is also survived by her sister Renee Laing and her cousin Denise Young, both of Durban, South Africa.

Lyn is remembered as a devoted wife and mother and a friend to all she met. She shared a passion for the beach, dance, tennis and enjoyed being with her two grandchildren Ethan & Drew, who she affectionately referred to as “the boys”. Lyn was born in Durban, South Africa. She worked as a Microbiologist at a major hospital in Durban and also in London. After marrying Paul in 1973, they lived in Durban, Johannesburg, Melbourne, the U.S. and London.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday July 23, at the Church of St. Peter Claver, 47 Pleasant Street, West Hartford. Immediately following the service, guests are encouraged to attend a casual gathering with friends and family in the church hall. Burial will be private.

Lyn’s family thanks the care givers and staff of Arden Courts Memory Care Facility in Farmington, CT who lovingly cared for Lyn during her last six years. They also recognize McLean Hospice for their support and compassion in their time of need.
