Obituary: Margaret Ann (Peggy) McGowan, 79, of West Hartford

Peggy was Head Nurse in Pediatrics at the Buffalo Children's Hospital where she met her husband, George. They had five children.

Peggy McGowan, 79, of West Hartford, the beloved wife of Dr. George E. McGowan, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, October 29, 2016.

Born in Webster, N.Y., on November 21, 1936, Peggy was the daughter of the late William and Margaret Wahle. She studied nursing at St. Mary’s Hospital, School of Nursing where she met many lifelong friends.

Peggy went on to become the Head Nurse in Pediatrics at the Buffalo Children’s Hospital where she met her husband, George. They were married and had five children.

In 1966 they moved to West Hartford. Peggy is survived by her devoted husband, George McGowan; their five children; Mark, Martha, Theresa, Greg and Joe; her sisters Barbara Lipstein of Parkton, MD and Janet Gaffney, of Chili, NY; and their 10 grandchildren.

A mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, November 2, at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas The Apostle Church, 872 Farmington Avenue, West Hartford, CT. Burial followed at Fairview Cemetery, 200 Whitman Avenue, West Hartford, CT.
