Obituary: Michael A. Guglielmo (Mike), 92, of West Hartford

Michael A. Guglielmo (Mike), 92, of Newburyport, MA (formerly of West Hartford), husband of the late Dorothea “Dee” (Wurslin) Guglielmo died Tuesday, April 17, 2018, accompanied by his family. Mike was born in Hartford, to Rocco Louis & Maria (DiTaranto) Guglielmo also of West Hartford. Mike was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, and uncle who is remembered fondly by all for his kindness, giving nature, humor, love of family, and animals.

He and his wife Dorothea (Dee) enjoyed many adventures together traveling through Europe and the Middle East. In addition, they enjoyed going to the beach or local parks with their dogs, attending numerous shows, concerts, and musicals at the Bushnell and local schools, and loved attending sporting events in which their son, grandchildren, nieces and nephews were participating.

Mike was the owner/proprietor of Michael’s Package Store in West Hartford Center for 30 years, a local real-estate investor, and active member of Saint Peter Claver Church in West Hartford. In recent years, Mike lived in Newburyport with his son Michael and daughter-in-law Dawn. During this time, he continued to enjoy family events and activities, occasional travel to Florida, local visits to beaches and drives along the coast, going out to eat (especially for lobster rolls), and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.

Michael is veteran of WWII. He served in the Army, Company C, 188th Engineer Combat Battalion as a Technician Fifth Grade (Demolition Specialist) from 1944 through 1946 in Northern France, Rhineland, Central Europe, and the Ardennes. In addition to landing on the beaches of Normandy, he fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He will be missed by his son Michael R Guglielmo and his wife Dawn (Newburyport, MA), three grandchildren: Lauren, Alyssa, and Christian; his siblings; Grace Tonucci (99 years old) of West Hartford, Carmella LaQuerre (97 years old) of Farmington, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and their families. In addition to his beloved Dee he was predeceased by his brother Pasqualle Guglielmo. Funeral services will be Monday, April 23, 2018 with the celebration of his Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter Claver Church, 47 Pleasant St. West Hartford.
