Obituary: ​Russell Freeman Bjorklund, 79, of West Hartford

Russell Freeman Bjorklund, 79, of West Hartford, died peacefully at Hartford Hospital on April 7, 2018. He was the beloved husband of fifty-three years to Barbara (Aronson) Bjorklund. He is survived by his two sons, Karl and his wife, Dayle; Kurt and his wife, Shelly; grandsons, Matthew and Michael; sister, Elinor Ertelt; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Barbara Aronson.

He leaves several cousins, nieces and nephews. Russ was the son of the late Russell and Elin (Freeman) Bjorklund; and predeceased by a sister, Evelyn (Bjorklund) Johnson. Russ graduated from William H. Hall High School in 1956 and Trinity College in 1960. He spent many years employed at Society for Savings and retired from Connecticut Housing Finance Authority.

Russ was a long-time member of Wyllys -St. John’s Lodge #4, holding positions of Worshipful Master and Secretary. He was also a member of Boy Scout Troop 29, West Hartford Squires and a lifetime member of Emanuel Lutheran Church. A memorial service will be held Friday, April 13, 2018 at 1:00 pm at Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home, 136 South Main Street, West Hartford.
