Outdoor Basketball Hoops A Concern In West Hartford

The Town of West Hartford reminds residents that outdoor basketball hoops must be removed from the road, citing snow removal issues.

WEST HARTFORD, CT —The Town of West Hartford is blowing the whistle on something its road crews had to deal with during last week's snow — outdoor basketball hoops.

Town road crews on Dec. 4 and 5 had to deal with portable basketball hoops on the road, causing issues with snow removal.

It prompted the town's public works department to remind residents that they must be removed from the public right-of-way, per Town Code §155-26.

"Leaving portable basketball hoops in these areas poses a safety hazard, particularly during snow and ice control operations," wrote the Town of West Hartford.

"Equipment such as plows and sanders require clear access to ensure our streets and sidewalks remain safe and passable for everyone."

Those who don't move their basketball hoops will face enforcement action to ensure compliance with town regulations.

"Thank you for your understanding and for helping us maintain safety and efficiency during the winter season," wrote the town.
