Parenting Is Not What I Expected!

It was very confusing for my wife and me. As parents, we are almost always supposed to know what to do. Moreover, it was probably even more confusing for our children. Our family went and saw the move, Miracles from Heaven. It was a great movie that gripped my heart and caused my children to have lots of questions that I didn’t really know how to answer. The best I could manage was, “The little girl got better because God made her get better.” You can imagine what kind of questions followed after that vague answer… Furthermore, my wife and I both noticed, that like the little girl in the movie, one of our daughters also has an extended belly and is sick again too.

As parents, we might as well walk around wearing a sign that says, “UNCERTAINTY” because that’s where we all reside during our parenting years. And when we have a child that keeps getting sick, and nobody can give us a right answer, like my wife and I have, it’s hard, and it makes you feel very uncertain; especially after watching a movie about a sick young girl. As parents, you always wonder if you’re doing the right thing… Have you followed the doctor’s advice correctly? Have you seen enough doctors? Have you seen enough specialists? Have you seen too many specialists? How about a natural path holistic doctor? Or should you just have faith?

Now, as my Granddaddy always said, “Go learn, lead, and lay the way to a better world for all of us.” If you’re a typical parent than you probably already know what I mean when I say that parenting is not what I expected. It’s much harder than I could have anticipated. But, it’s the harder road that is less traveled that teaches us the most and builds our character and memories that last. And this road is usually not what we expected, but is often what we needed according to our Creator. And once again parents, thanks in advance for all that you do, and all that you will do…
