Parenting Through Love and Laughter!

I’m nowhere near it yet, but I’ve been told that when it comes to the little ones, being a grandparent is pretty cool. Grandparents are those who have done their time and survived what we newer parents are trying to survive. They say it’s better the second time around as parents to new parents instead of parents to new children. I have asked some more experienced older parents/grandparents what the difference was besides just being able to send the little ones back home with their parents at the end of the day. They have responded with things like how they’ve learned to loosen up a little bit, and no matter what the little ones do, they now know it’s not the end of the world. As grandparents, or even just older parents, they have learned to love and laugh a little more and stress a little less.

Grandparents have also learned over the years not to judge the little ones, and not to judge their now fully grown adult children. Grandparents have also learned not to offer advice, unless it is asked for. Instead, grandparents just cherish the joys that young ones bring them and always have a lap ready for some cuddling and giggling.

You see parents, our parents have learned something that we newer parents are still trying to learn. And here it is! There will always be difficulties at every stage of life. If we just learn to hold onto the small joys, like love and laughter from the cute and/or crazy little things that our little ones say or do, then eventually the problems seem to fade away; or at least lose some of their intensity.

Now, as my Granddaddy always said, “Go learn, lead, and lay the way to a better world for all of us.” Remember to love and laugh now as much as you can in this unpredictable world because you never know what may happen next. Our kids grow up way too fast. And once again parents, thanks in advance for all that you do, and all that you will do…
