Park Road, I-84 Interchange Reconfiguration Project Meeting Set
West Hartford will hold a public informational meeting to give residents and overview of the Park Road and I-84 reconfiguration project.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — A public informational meeting will be held on Sept. 18 to provide residents with an overview of the Park Road and I-84 interchange reconfiguration project. The town’s Engineering Division has completed the design plans to reconfigure the Park Road at Interstate 84 (Exit 43) interchange area to improve intersection capacity, efficiency, and safety. The project involves the relocation of the I-84 off-ramp so it is adjacent to the existing on-ramp.
“The ramp relocation will improve traffic flow and alleviate congestion,” the engineering department wrote in a press release. “The off-ramp will also be re-graded and widened to provide an additional left turn lane, which will increase capacity and improve safety. During a recent three-year period there were almost 60 crashes on the off-ramp. Park Road will also be widened on the south side to create an additional travel lane and left turn lanes. Pedestrian and bicyclist enhancements will also be incorporated into the project.”
Construction is expected to begin this month. The construction costs for the project are estimated to be $6.8 million with federal funds providing 80 percent of the costs, and the state and town each providing 10 percent, according to officials.
