Paving of Bloomfield Avenue to Begin Next Week (Updated)

Update: State secures additional funding, extends project.

The State secured additional funding and has extended the project. Bloomfield Ave (Rte. 189) will now be paved from Cottage Grove Road (Rte. 218) in Bloomfield, through West Hartford and continue to Albany Avenue (Rte. 44) in Hartford.

The State Department of Transportation is planning to mill and pave Bloomfield Ave (Rte 189) between Cottage Grove Road (Rte 218) and Simsbury Road (Rte 185). Milling is tentatively scheduled to begin on June 9 (weather permitting).

The paving is expected to begin on June 26 (weather permitting).

The normal work hours are from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., however on the first day of milling the crew will begin work at 4 a.m. to complete the work near the busy intersection of Cottage Grove Road (Rte 218) in advance of the morning commuting period.

During the construction work, the roadway will be reduced to a single lane with alternating traffic. Delays will be expected and motorists are advised to use alternate routes.
