UPDATE: ID Released of Pedestrian Hit and Killed by Car in West Hartford

The victim Muir was driving a Honda Accord and parked on the side of the street while delivering newspapers.

WEST HARTFORD, CT - Police said the department's Traffic Division is investigating a serious accident on South Main Street that occurred Thursday.

Units responded to the area close to 6:38 p.m. that day for a report of a serious motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian, according to police. It was initially reported that CPR was in progress.

Police and fire department personnel provided medical aid to the victim upon arrival, who was transported to Hartford Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. The victim was pronounced deceased shortly after arriving at the hospital.

The victim was identified by police as Belford Adoplhus Muir. He is 64 years old and a resident of Jamaica.

Muir was driving a Honda Accord and he parked on the northbound side of the street while delivering newspapers for the Hartford Courant. The victim was crossing South Main Street when he was struck by a Ram 1500 pick-up truck traveling southbound.

South Main Street was closed between New Britain Avenue and Elmfield Street while the incident was under investigation.
