Person Shot During Drug Deal In West Hartford: Police

The person was shot at a home in West Hartford and police have arrested two people in connection to the case.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — An 18-year-old Newington resident and a juvenile have been arrested in connection to an incident in which a person was shot during a drug deal in West Hartford over the weekend, according to police. At about 6 p.m. on June 23, UConn Police (Farmington) reported to West Hartford Police that a gunshot victim was in the UConn Emergency Room claiming to have been shot at Cornerstone Drive near Brookmoor Road in West Hartford, according to Capt. Michael Perruccio.

Perruccio said West Hartford officers arrived and learned the victim went to that area to sell drugs to someone they knew and was shot during the transaction. The victim sustained non-life threatening injuries and is currently recovering in the hospital, according to Perruccio.

During the course of the investigation, search and arrest warrants were served at a home located in the 1000 block of New Britain Avenue in West Hartford on June 24, Perruccio said. Two people have been arrested as a result of the warrant.

Shawn Moura, 18, of Homecrest Street in Newington, was arrested and charged with first-degree robbery and conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery. Moura was held on a $75,000 bond and is scheduled to be brought to court on Monday morning.

A male juvenile was also arrested at the home on New Britain Avenue in connection to the case. He was charged with carrying a pistol without a permit, first-degree robbery, conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery, first-degree assault and illegal discharge of a firearm. A $250,000 bond was set and he was then taken to juvenile detention in Hartford, according to Perruccio.

Perruccio said narcotics and weapons were located and seized at the same address on New Britain Avenue. Police are continuing to investigate and additional charges may be filed, according to Perruccio.
