As a result, the Town of West Hartford's emergency management department issued information on how locals impacted by the floods may be able to get the help they need by notifying authorities about what happened to them.

"If your home or business suffered damage due to this weekend’s storm (Aug. 18 and Aug. 19), the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection, Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security (DESPP/DEMHS) would like to know about it as soon as possible," wrote the town Wednesday.

Officials said this information is "crucial so that they can assess the extent of the damages and gather the information required to determine if thresholds and criteria are met to be considered under the FEMA Individual Assistance program and/or Small Business Administration (SBA) programs."

To streamline the data collection process and ensure accurate and efficient reporting, the town has created a public self-reporting link for people to report damages to homes and businesses.

This portal will enable the town to gather comprehensive information regarding the damages incurred and identify areas where to direct damage assessment teams.
