Public Works Department Holds First Open House

Curious about household hazardous waste and need to have some private documents shredded? Accomplish both at the same time at this weekend's open house.

If you have stacks of junk mail or personal documents that you need to dispose of and your children are in awe of the large DPW trucks, the West Hartford ’ open house on Saturday is a no brainer.

Children can pretend that they’re behind the wheel of a snowplow or dump truck, while adults can learn about how to properly dispose of household hazardous waste or trim down the pile of mail by putting them threw the shredder. Residents can also register to win one of several bicycle helmets to be raffled.

The event will run from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 19, at the 17 Brixton St. facility. The open house coincides with the observance of National Public Works Week.
