Registered Sex Offender Charged With Sexually Assaulting Young Girl: West Hartford Police

The suspect, who was babysitting 2 young boys at a nearby residence, is accused of inappropriately touching a 9-year-old girl, police said.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — A registered sex offender is accused of sexually assaulting a 9-year-old girl while he was babysitting for two boys in West Hartford, according to police. At about 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 21, West Hartford Police responded to Hillcrest Avenue on the report of a stranger grabbing a 9-year-old girl and touching her inappropriately, according police.

The girl told police that the man grabbed her by the arms, put her on his lap, and kissed her neck multiple times. (To sign up for West Hartford breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

The suspect, Kevin Duverger, was located at a nearby residence on Hillcrest Avenue. Duverger admitted to grabbing the girl and was arrested, police said. Duverger is on the Sex Offender Registry for a similar incident in 2009.

In that incident Duverger approached a 9-year-old child, who was unknown to him, on the street and forced the child to touch him inappropriately, according to his listing on the registry.

During the time of the latest incident, Duverger was babysitting for two boys under the age of 10, according to police.

Police said statements made at the scene “indicated other possible crimes had occurred to one of the juvenile males. That investigation is ongoing.”

Duverger, 39, of 662 Broadview Terrace in Hartford, was arrested on charges of fourth-degree sexual assault, risk of injury to a child and second-degree unlawful restraint. He was held on a $200,000 bond.
