West Hartford Is Hosting A National Drug Take Back Collection

WEST HARTFORD, CT — Local police and the local health department are hoping folks take advantage of an opportunity later this month to safely unload unwanted medications.

On Saturday, Oct. 29, the West Hartford-Bloomfield Health District and the West Hartford Police Department are hosting a collaborative effort to remove unused and unwanted medications during National Take Back Day.

Collection activities will take place at Charter Oak International Academy parking lot, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Participants can enter the parking lot via Flatbush Avenue. (The school address is 425 Oakwood Ave.)

The program is anonymous and free of charge. Volunteers will be on hand to take items from their vehicles.

Items accepted include prescription and over-the-counter dosage medications, i.e. tablets, capsules, vaping products and liquids.

Items not accepted include intravenous solutions, injectable medicines, Epipens and needles.

National Take Back Day provides an opportunity for the public to surrender expired, unwanted, or unused pharmaceutical controlled substances and other medication for destruction in an environmentally safe manner.

These drugs can contaminate waterways when flushed away and are a potential risk to public health and safety when used illegally.
