Friday is opening night for Northwest Catholic’s fall production of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night. The show will continue with Saturday evening and Sunday matinee performances. You may reserve tickets by emailing nwcdrama@gmail.com and pick them up at the box office directly before the show.
NWC’s production of this favorite Shakespearean comedy is set in 1920s Newport, Rhode Island, giving the show a 20th century American, Gatsby-esque spin. With help from scenic designer Rorie Fitzsimons and costumer Linda Milton, NWC Dramateurs’ Directors Sara Avery and Kate Morran have taken special care to include imagery, music, props, movement, and physical comedy that jives with the Jazz Age setting while keeping the spirit of Shakespeare’s story intact.
Morran remarked, “Since we had a uniquely intellectual group of young people, we chose this year for the Dramateurs’ first go at Shakespeare. It has been a fantastic learning experience for everyone involved. Each rehearsal is essentially a raucous English class on its feet.” Morran continued, “Everyone should join us for a bawdy, silly, evening of classic British drama.”
