Shoplifter Spit On Cop At Mall: West Hartford Police
Police say the incident occurred while they were trying to restrain the suspect, who later damaged a camera in a cell at headquarters.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — A shoplifting suspect is accused of spitting on an officer’s arm while they were trying to restrain him Friday afternoon at the West Farms Mall, according to police. West Hartford Police responded to the mall at about 3:30 p.m. on April 27 on the report of Macy’s and West Farms Mall Security actively trying to restrain a shoplifter, identified as Miguel Gonzalez, according to the police report.
Police said Gonzalez continued to be non-compliant when officers arrived. Gonzalez spit on an officer's arm during the incident, police said. Officers were eventually able to arrest and take Gonzalez to the West Hartford Police Department.
While in a cell, Gonzalez stepped on the sink and began striking the cell camera with his fist and damaged it, according to police.

Police said no officers were injured during the incident and Gonzalez wasn’t injured, despite falling off of the sink.
Gonzalez, 42, of Main Street in Hartford, was arrested on charges of fifth-degree larceny, interfering with an officer, assault on a public safety officer, threatening and third-degree criminal mischief.
