Summer Diabetes Workshops Start Tuesday For West Hartford, Bloomfield

WEST HARTFORD, CT — The local health department is hosting a series of diabetes education workshops starting Tuesday, June 4.

The free virtual diabetes summer workshops, hosted by the West Hartford-Bloomfield Health District, will feature registered dietitian and certified care and diabetes education specialist Paula Kellogg Leibovitz.

She will lead a virtual seven-week series on managing diabetes and eating well while following diabetic guidelines.

It will take place along the Zoom online platform and there will be opportunities for questions and comments.

The workshop series is for individuals with Type 2 diabetes who are newly diagnosed or who may need an update on managing their diabetes.

The following is the schedule:

• WORKSHOP 1: Tuesday evenings, June 4, 11, 18, 25, July 2, 9, 16, 6 to 8 p.m.

• WORKSHOP 2: Thursday days, June 6, 13, 20, 27, July 11, 18, 25, 1 to 3 p.m.

• WORKSHOP 3: Wednesday days, August 14, 21, 28, September 4, 11, 18, 25, 10 a.m. to noon.

• WORKSHOP 4: Wednesday evenings, August 14, 21, 28, September, 4, 11, 18, 25, 6 to 8 p.m.

Topics include meal planning; label reading; monitoring blood glucose; setting goals for blood glucose and A1C; diabetes medications and how they work; exercising safely; and what to do when ill, among others.

Registration is required and workshop materials will be mailed to you before the series starts.

This workshop is supported by a grant from CT Department of Public Health to the West Hartford-Bloomfield Health District.
