Tap Your Toes At Two Holiday Jazz Shows In West Hartford

WEST HARTFORD, CT — People are invited to celebrate the holiday season with the "Shubert Alley Cats," a prominent jazz band that will have toes tapping and hands clapping.

The band will perform at West Hartford's Playhouse on Park on Saturday, Dec. 28, with shows at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. at Playhouse's theater, which is at 244 Park Road, West Hartford.

Both shows are "bring your own beverages" and all tickets are $30.

"The New Year is just around the corner, so pop the champagne, pencil in those resolutions, and cut a rug to original jazz reimaginings of the show tunes, pop songs, and holiday favorites you know and love," reads an announcement issued by Playhouse on Park.

Expected musical offerings will come from such theater classics as "The Phantom of the Opera" to Meaghan Trainor, from "The Music Man" to Chappell Roan.

"This musical collective features actors, musicians, and actor-musicians who have performed on the stages and in the orchestras of theaters on Broadway, off-Broadway, and in Playhouse on Park’s 2023 production of Bandstand," wrote Playhouse.

The band is named after the pedestrian alley in the heart of New York City’s Theater District.

The band includes Wes Bourland (bass); Justin K. Brown (woodwinds); Chris Coffey (drums, guitar); John Elliott (trumpet); Chris Haley (trombone), and Alan Mendez (bandleader, piano).

Joining them will be guest vocalists Hillary Ekwall and Olivia Fenton.
