Target Eyeing New Location In West Hartford

The national retailer says it is pursuing an opportunity in West Hartford.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — With several national retailers recently shuttering stores and businesses leaving the state, there may be a bit of good news for Connecticut as Target is eyeing a new location in West Hartford. Target is considering opening a new location in the Edens Shopping Center in Bishops Corner, which formerly housed a Walmart Neighborhood Market that closed in 2016.

Target has applied for a request of minor architectural changes and signage, which is required because the center is a Special Development District, according to We-Ha.com. The request, which requires approval from the town planner, is a prerequisite for signing a lease for Target and is expected to be approved, We-Ha.com reports.

Target officials confirmed to NBC Connecticut that they are “pursuing the opportunity” in the Bishops Corner neighborhood but couldn’t share any new store plans without a lease being signed.

In a bit of a surprise, Sears announced that it was closing its Waterbury location at the beginning of September after previously saying that no Connecticut stores were scheduled to close as part of the company’s goal to streamline operations.
