Town Website Hacked: West Hartford Police

Police are investigating after it was discovered Thursday morning that the town's website had been hacked: BREAKING

WEST HARTFORD, CT — Police are investigating after the Town of West Hartford website was hacked. Police said the discovery that the site had been hacked was made around 7:30 a.m. Thursday morning and the town’s IT department immediately took the webpage down and is taking steps to get it back online.

“The West Hartford Police Department is investigating and are working with the CT Intelligence Center (CTIC) to investigate how this happened,” Lt. Eric Rocheleau said in a press release. “CTIC indicated that a large number of government website defacements have been occurring throughout the country; this particular one also hit communities as far away as California. There is no threat to public safety.

“The attack is limited to the public website, which is separate from Town network; no personal data of residents has been compromised. The investigation is ongoing.”
