All 11 of the town's elementary schools are participating in the drive to help keep the shelves stocked at the West Hartford Food Pantry.

The town-wide West Hartford Food Drive continues to pick up steam and a second sponsor has been added to help the cause.

All 11 West Hartford elementary schools are participating in the food drive in an effort to keep the shelves stocked at the West Harford Food Pantry.

So far six schools have completed their drives while three schools are slated to begin their drives in March and April with the final school holding its drive in June.

Shoprite of West Hartford sponsored the event from the beginning and pledged to match up to one ton (2,000 pounds) of canned vegetables.

Barry Rosenberg of Rosenberg Orthodontics has joined the cause as a sponsor and will make a matching monetary donation of up to $,2000 to the pantry, based on the elementary schools’ total food drive collection reaching 1 ton, or 2,000 pounds of food, according to Aiken Community Outreach Coordinator Corbin Woods.

“This is a fantastic addition to Shoprite’s generous matching donation of up to 2,000 pounds of canned foods,” Woods said. “What an enormously generous community effort. Thank you to both Rosenberg Orthodontics and Shoprite for helping our community give back to those in need here in West Hartford.”
