But in a short letter dated Feb. 16, Davidoff notified the town council of his intentions to step down after the Feb. 28 meeting.

Davidoff was honored by his colleagues Feb. 28, with town leaders citing his 15 years "of exemplary service on the council."

In addition, state Sen. Derek Slap, D-West Hartford, and state Rep. Kate Farrar, D-West Hartford, presented Davidoff with a legislative proclamation for his service.

Davidoff's letter didn't indicate a reason for the early resignation, though plans had called for Davidoff to take over as town clerk in early April.
