WeHa PD SWAT Unit Does Well At Competition

The West Hartford Police Department's 'Emergency Services Unit' was among the top 10 competitors at last week's challenge.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — The town's police department recently placed in the top 10 in a major competition testing SWAT team units against each other and themselves.

According to the West Hartford Police Department, the unit's "Emergency Services Unit" placed ninth out of 23 SWAT team units at the 2023 CT SWAT Challenge, a competition featuring SWAT teams from the state and country.

The event, which was actually founded by the WHPD in 2005, took place in several areas in Connecticut, including Hartford, Windsor and West Hartford.

It featured a series of challenges, exhibitions and contests all testing the tactical abilities of participating SWAT units.

"We are extremely proud of our team who placed 9th overall," wrote the WHPD this week.

West Hartford's SWAT unit is based in West Hartford only (many SWAT teams are actually regional police department endeavors) and it consists of 18 officers, detectives and supervisors.

This year's SWAT competition took place over four days Aug 14-17, with the culminating competition being a "grueling" physical training obstacle course.

When all the competitions were tallied and the standings calculated, West Hartford came in ninth.

"Congratulations again to all of the team members for their dedication, accomplishments and efforts," wrote the WHPD.
