WeHa Playhouse's Saturday Shows Have Two Special Events

Playhouse on Park's performance of 'The Pin-Up Girls: A Musical Love Letter' has a book talk in the afternoon and open mic night later.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — Two showings of West Hartford's Playhouse on Park's production of its latest show come with two separate special events.

The popular theater group is playing "The Pin-Up Girls: A Musical Love Letter" through Dec. 23.

It is a musical review paying tribute to war veterans from the past 100 years, featuring music from the times of the wars and music as diverse as The Andrew Sisters to Beyonce.

The showings on Saturday, Dec. 16, carry two special events:

• Award-winning author and journalist Lisa Franco will discuss her book, "My Dearest Darling: Letters of Love in Wartime," which carries a similar theme to the play's plot.

The event will take place immediately following the 2 p.m. performance. (Approximately 3:45 p.m.)

This presentation and book signing is free and open to the public. Attendees can come for the show and stay after or just come over at 3:45 p.m.

• The show's 8 p.m. showing on Saturday, Dec. 16, will then feature an Open Mic Night at Playhouse on Park.

This will take place at about 9:45 p.m., with the open microphone portion of the event free and open to the public.

"Anyone is welcome to sing, or come and enjoy those that do," wrote Playhouse on Park in an announcement. "Tips for the pianist are encouraged."

Participants can bring their sheet music or choose from the collection at the Playhouse. Playhouse on Park will provide an accompanist. This event is BYOB
