WeHa Theater Group Hosting Big Fundraiser In Hartford

WEST HARTFORD/HARTFORD, CT — Folks are invited to enjoy themselves at a major fund-raiser Saturday, May 13, for a West Hartford-based theater group that serves greater Hartford communities.

The Playhouse Theatre Group Inc. is hosting its annual fundraiser, called "Encore!," on Saturday, May 13, at The Society Room, Hartford, from 6 p.m. to midnight. The Society Room is located at 31 Pratt St., Hartford

The theme this year, according to event organizers, is "Razzle Dazzle: A Tribute to the Work of John Kander."

Playhouse Theatre, which is based at 244 Park Road, West Hartford, said performers Veanne Cox and Jayke Workman are the featured entertainers of the evening.

Requested attire is "Art Deco Chic" and the evening includes dinner, drinks, live/silent auctions, dancing with the Latanya Farrell Band, and live performances paying tribute to the work of John Kander, which includes "Chicago," "Cabaret" and "Kiss of the Spider Woman.

Cox is an actress who has worked on Broadway, off-Broadway, on TV and in films, on streaming series and podcasts and at leading regional theaters.

Workman is a non-binary performer based in New York City and a graduate of The Hartt School in Hartford.

Workman has performed regionally all over the country and, when not onstage, Workman works in the wig department for Saturday Night Live.

In tandem with the event, Playhouse Theatre Group’s online auction is live at https://Encore2023.ggo.bid and there are several items on which to bid. The online silent auction closes on Saturday, May 13, at 9 p.m.

Tickets, tables, sponsorships and advertisements are on sale now.

Tickets are $150 each for "young professionals," $200 for "patrons" and $300 for "benefactors.
