WEST HARTFORD, CT — State Rep. Kate Farrar, D-West Hartford, officially said Friday she wants another term serving the 20th House District.

The district encompasses the southern portion of West Hartford and the western portion of Newington.

“I am running for re-election to continue to build a state for all of us to thrive,” said Farrar in a statement. “I am dedicated to being a champion for our diverse community and delivering results for our district.”

She said she led the passage of a menstrual equity law with Conard High School students and of a law to expand the number of languages for the driver’s license exam with West Hartford Nepalese community members.

“We've made progress for our state, but we can't stop there. We need to make Connecticut more affordable by addressing the unfair tax system and investing in more housing options and child care," Farrar said.

"We also need to design healthier communities for us to live, work and play. These critical issues need action and I will continue to listen and collaborate for new solutions.”

Farrar grew up in Connecticut and is a graduate of the University of Connecticut.

She said she is a longtime non-profit advocate for women and girls, including expanding STEM opportunities for girls and leading the passage of Connecticut’s landmark paid family medical leave program.

Farrar works as a strategy coordinator at Connecticut Foodshare and is an active volunteer in West Hartford as a board member of the Aurora Foundation for Women and Girls.

She lives on Ridgewood Road with her husband, Chan, and their dog, Lizzie.
