West Hartford Animal Control Rescues Barred Owl

WEST HARTFORD, CT — A barred owl is receiving treatment after becoming snagged and injured by a wire protruding from a plumbing-snake pole, according to a social-media post from the raptor rehabilitation center A Place Called Hope.

The wire had a sharp bend at its end that pierced through the owl’s wing tissue, leaving a hole and a sore wing as the bird struggled to free itself, the center said.

A Place Called Hope thanked West Hartford Animal Control Officer Kim for getting the owl to the Killingworth-based facility for help. The center said cold laser therapy was set to begin Monday and that the owl is now safe and healing.

The organization called the incident a first in its experience and urged residents to put away tools, sports equipment and other items that could injure wildlife.

CT Insider reported that West Hartford Animal Control Officer Kim Gulino rescued the owl Friday. The report said the bird was brought to A Place Called Hope for treatment after its wing was impaled by the wire.
