West Hartford Announces Holiday Openings/Closings

Christmas Day is on Thursday, Dec. 25, while New Year's Day is on Thursday, Jan. 1.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — 'Tis the season to kick back, relax, and enjoy the holiday season.

And with that come closed schools, closed municipal offices, and general changes in operations hours this time of year.

"The Town of West Hartford wishes you and your family a Happy Holiday season," wrote the Town of West Hartford in an announcement.

To that end, West Hartford has announced its openings/closings schedule for the Christmas and New Year's holidays.

Municipal Buildings

Municipal offices, libraries, and recreation facilities, including senior centers, the community center, pool, and MDC Reservoir, will be closed on Thursday, Dec. 25, and Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026.

The collection of trash and recyclable materials will be delayed by one day after each holiday.

Public schools

West Hartford Public Schools will be on holiday break from Wednesday, Dec. 24, through Friday, Jan. 2, 2026.

Students will return to school on Monday, Jan. 5, 2026.

Trash Collection

Since Christmas and New Year’s Day fall on a Thursday, trash, metal, and "A" week recycling collection will be delayed by one day after the holiday.

Thursday's area will be picked up on Friday, and Friday's area will be picked up on Saturday.

Residents should place barrels at the curb by 6 a.m.

Recycing Center

The Yard Waste and Recycling Center will be closed in observance of the holidays on Thursday, Dec. 25, and Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026.

The facility is now closed on Saturdays and will resume Saturday hours on April 4, 2026.

The recycling center's hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. (The last vehicle accepted is at 2:45 PM.)
