West Hartford Appoints 18 To Local Boards, Committees

WEST HARTFORD, CT — The list of volunteers on the roster of community servants helping their town grew significantly late last month with the appointments of 18 to various boards and commissions.

Finding folks to serve is a common municipal bugaboo and West Hartford is always looking for them.

And the West Hartford Town Council Jan. 24 found a bunch to help out their towns.

Much of the boards that added people are not binding boards, meaning their job is to advise municipal leaders on various issues.

Others are binding and their decisions can represent critical changes in how the town operates and how residents are impacted, such as the board of assessment appeals revising a challenged tax assessment.

All boards and committees are seen as important, none the less, because they provide important advice to town decision makers, who may not have sufficient time to probe all aspects of every issue.

As part of the "consent agenda," which means a list of routine appointments done in one vote, the council unanimously appointed:

• Lisa Lazarus to the West Hartford Board of Assessors for a term to expire Dec. 31, 2026.

• Joseph Stafford to the West Hartford Board of Assessment Appeals for a term to expire Dec. 31, 2025.

• Kerry Kelley as an alternate member of the West Hartford Board of Assessment Appeals for a term to expire Dec. 31, 2025.

• Cara Paiuk and Mark Linabury to the West Hartford Human Rights Commission for terms to expire Dec. 31, 2025.

• Andres Lopez, Jessica Goldstein and Narayan Paudel to the West Hartford Parks and Recreation Advisory Board for terms to expire Dec. 31, 2025.

• John Wenz to the West Hartford Pedestrian and Bicycle Commission for a term to expire Dec. 31, 2023.

•Tracy Oni to the West Hartford Prevention Council for a term to expire Dec. 31, 2023.

• Gretchen Levitz-Kimball to the West Hartford Prevention Council for a term to expire Dec. 31, 2025.

• Eileen Rau to the West Hartford Senior Citizens Advisory Commission for a term to expire on Dec. 31, 2027.

• Inga Bowes to the West Hartford Commission on Veterans’ Affairs for a term to expire Dec 31, 2025.

• Algis Kalvaitis as an alternate member of the West Hartford Zoning Board of Appeals for a term to expire Dec. 31, 2027.

• Reappointment of Nichole Berklas, Nastajha Ortiz, Ashley Rigby and Alexis SafoAgyeman as members of the West Hartford Fair Rent Commission for terms to expire Dec. 31, 2024.
