West Hartford Artist Tina McDowell to Exhibit in New York this May
Chelsea's Agora Gallery will feature the original work of West Hartford artist Tina McDowell in Elixir of Nature.
Tina McDowell’s paintings reflect a life lived globally, but they speak most clearly of the influence that the flowing nature of water and the concept of ebb and flow have had on her life.
Her work combines subtle changes in texture and silhouettes which convey a sense of distance and scale, evocative of oceanic textures and movement. In her recent work, there is a great sense of rebirth and return emphasized by the rich depth of color and use of reflections and other spectral textures which flow seamlessly together except when deliberately, and dramatically, separated.
The sense of rebirth in McDowell’s work mirrors her ability to consistently recreate herself and her art, particularly in regard to her earlier work. Though her paintings touch on a variety of styles, McDowell imparts cohesion to her work through her distinctive themes and stylistic touches. Her ability to meld representational and abstract art in particular convey a sophisticated sense of being and place, while the allusive aspect of her work, including distinctive print-like patterning, showcase McDowell’s skill at re-contextualizing texture in her own way.

About the Exhibition
Magical May Art at Agora Gallery
The artworks of Elixir of Nature express the individual perspectives of artists who have spent time examining and peeling back the layers of what we ordinarily accept as reality to uncover the mysterious and almost magical nature of the world. From abstraction to photorealism, the artists in this exhibition prove their mastery over color and form by elevating their subjects from just visual to immersive, sensational experiences.
