WEST HARTFORD, CT — The town is urging folks to enjoy the summer and, as of Monday, July 1, also spend a month reducing the amount of plastic waste in the environment.

Local leaders are urging people to recognize, starting Monday, "Plastic Free July," a global movement that helps millions of people be part of the solution to plastic pollution.

The hope is to "have cleaner streets, oceans, and beautiful communities."

West Hartford Recycles, a local environmental organization, is asking people to avoid so-called, "single-use plastics," such as plastic bags, etc.

Folks are being requested to sign up to take the challenge on the Plastic Free July's website.

Participants will receive our calendar in via email as well as helpful ideas and stories from around the world each week during July.
