West Hartford To Begin Major Bicycle Trail Connector Project This Summer

West Hartford will begin construction this summer on a new separated bike lane linking the Trout Brook Trail and West Hartford Center.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — Construction is scheduled to begin this summer on a new bicycle connector designed to improve access between West Hartford Center and the Trout Brook Trail.

The project follows the town's receipt of a $384,552 Community Connectivity Grant in November 2025 to fund the West Hartford Center to Trout Brook Trail Bicycle Connector Project.

The project will add an approximately 10-foot-wide, two-way separated bike lane along the north side of Farmington Avenue between Trout Brook Drive and North Main Street, creating a safer connection for cyclists traveling between the trail and the town center.

The new facility will tie into bicycle infrastructure currently under construction as part of the West Hartford Center Infrastructure Roadway Reconstruction Project.

Those improvements include covered bicycle parking, e-bike charging stations, and a bicycle connection to the Brace Road parking lot.

  • A curb extension at the intersection of Farmington Avenue and North Main Street.

Town officials said design work is ongoing, with construction expected to begin during the summer of 2026.
