West Hartford Burglary Suspect Apprehended

A suspect was captured with the aid of a canine unit while attempting to flee a liquor store early Sunday morning, police said.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — A Hartford resident was captured by police after a burglar alarm was activated at a local liquor store early Sunday morning.

At 2:36 a.m., an alarm was received from Caesar’s Liquor Outlet at 440 New Park Ave. Due to similar incidents, West Hartford police officers were already engaged in surveillance operations in the area, and immediately established a perimeter around the business, Capt. Michael Perruccio said.

A suspect, Michael Jankowski, 30, exited the building and made a brief attempt to elude officers, but was apprehended with assistance of a West Hartford police canine team, Perruccio said.

Jankowski was charged with third-degree burglary, first-degree criminal mischief, third-degree larceny and interfering with an officer. Bond was set at $25,000.
