West Hartford Center to Host First "Center Streets" Event

Residents are invited to take to the streets for a care-free and car-free morning this month.

WEST HARTFORD, CT – Guests of all ages are invited to "take to the streets" for a care-free and car-free summer morning for the town's first-ever "Center Streets" event.

"Center Streets" will take place in West Hartford Center on Sunday, Aug. 28, and run from 9 a.m. to noon.

The event will close traffic on four roads that form a rectangular loop around the central business district: Farmington Avenue, South Main Street, Memorial Road Extension, and LaSalle Road. Guests are encouraged to forgo using an automobile and ride their bicycle or scooter, or simply walk.

He was inspired by car-free summer events that have become increasingly popular in New York City and around the globe.

"We want to demonstrate the popularity of bicycling as a transportation and recreational option in West Hartford," Co-Organizer Edward Pawlak said in a release, "and show local businesses that bicyclists are good customers."

Both organizers are active members of the event sponsor, Bike West Hartford, Inc., a non-profit organization that promotes bicycle-friendly policies and programs in town.
