West Hartford To Consider Wi-Fi Service in Center

The town council authorized Town Manager Ron Van Winkle to explore the opportunities and cost of installing public Wi-Fi service.

West Hartford will explore the cost and benefit of installing high-speed Wi-Fi in West Hartford Center following a 5-3 vote of the town council on Tuesday night, according to the Hartford Courant.

The Courant reports Republican council members Denise Hall, Chris Barnes and Chris Williams were against the resolution that authorized Town Manager Ron Van Winkle to investigate the opportunities and cost of installing the public wireless Internet service throughout the Center. Mayor Scott Slifka was absent.

Hall said the idea of public Wi-Fi “sounds wonderful” but expressed concerns about all the resources and finances that would go along with implementing it and didn’t think Wi-Fi access was a problem for residents, according to the Courant.
