West Hartford Forum To Discuss Film On Blacks In Prison
The town's equity department is hosting a documentary screening of the Netflix film '13th' on Sunday, Feb. 8.
WEST HARTFORD, CT — The Town of West Hartford is hosting a special screening of the Netflix documentary "13th" followed by a panel discussion this Sunday, Feb. 8.
The event will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Noah Webster Library meeting room, 20 S. Main St., West Hartford.
In the documentary, scholars, activists, and politicians analyze the criminalization of African Americans and the U.S. prison boom.

The title refers to the Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, adopted in 1865, which abolished slavery throughout the United States and ended involuntary servitude, except as punishment for convicted criminals.

- Manisha Sinha, the James L. and Shirley A. Draper Chair in American History at the University of Connecticut and a leading authority on the history of slavery and abolition and the Civil War and Reconstruction
The event is being hosted in partnership with the Town of West Hartford's Office of Equity Advancement.
