West Hartford: Get Ready For Blue Back Summer
Town's shopping, dining and entertainment destination unveils summer events that are free for families.
WEST HARTFORD, CT — School in West Hartford has been out for summer for a few days now since June 13, but the summer is just getting started at the town's top shopping and entertainment destination.
West Hartford’s Blue Back Square announced June 16 its “Summer in The Square” events schedule, which begin this month and run through the end of August.
"There will be something for everyone to enjoy during Summer in The Square, including live music concerts, kids entertainment, comedy shows, fitness classes, special happy hours, and more — all for free — as a way to give back to the West Hartford community for supporting the property throughout Covid," Blue Back Square said in a statement.

The site's general manager agreed.
“We are very excited to usher in the summer season and invite the community to come out and take advantage of our beautiful outdoor setting here at Blue Back Square. Summer in the Square was designed to offer something for everyone with children's activities, comedy nights, fitness classes, live music, and date night fun. Between these events and the ones our retailers and restaurants offer, there’s something to do almost every day of the summer this year,” said Robyn Rifkin, general manager of Blue Back Square.

All "Summer in The Square" events are open to the public and free. They include:
• The "Sounds of Summer" live music concert series.
The series is back at Blue Back Square for performances by local musicians happening on a weekly basis all summer long. Shows are Wednesday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m.
Some future shows are: June 22, Jukebox 45; July 13, The Zoo; and Aug. 24, Locomotion.
In the event of rain headline concerts will be rescheduled to the following day (Thursday).

• "Sweat it Out" community fitness classes.
On select Wednesday evenings from 6 to 7pm (July 6 and 16 and Aug. 3 and 10) all are welcome to enjoy a free full body workout hosted by Pure Barre.
Pure Barre’s instructors will lead participants through their total-body barre workout, combining yoga, pilates and ballet.

• Camp Blue Back, a kid-friendly activities and entertainment program
Bring the kids and join Blue Back every Tuesday (June 28 to Aug. 9) for Camp Blue Back.
From 10 a.m. to noon each week, camp is in session and families are invited to enjoy a variety of free kid-friendly fun like arts and crafts, story time, sing-a-longs, character visits, face painting, balloon animals and more.
Camp Blue Back is intended for kids ages 2-10. Parents/guardians must remain with children at all times.

• Regular "Comedy Nights" will feature live stand-up shows.
Blue Back Square has partnered with 20/20 Media to bring on the laughs with two comedy showcase events happening in The Square on Thursday, June 30, and Thursday, July 14, from 8 to 9 p.m.
Visitors can come out to enjoy five comedians live on stage during each family-friendly event.
