WEST HARTFORD, CT — A Hartford-based foundation has awarded $1.442 million in grants to one West Hartford organization dedicated to community healthcare.

The Connecticut Health Foundation, a nonprofit giving organization specializing in healthcare causes, doled out several grants throughout the state to improve and enhance healthcare and access to it.

In total, 39 grants were awarded to organizations throughout Connecticut, including one in West Hartford.

Khmer Health Advocates of West Hartford is receiving $50,000.

This unique organization was founded to care for the health needs of survivors of the mid-1970s Mahandorai (Cambodian holocaust) and their families.

It offers psychotherapy, health consultations, and training for those interested in working with Cambodians.

This grant will be used to develop a data collection tool and training curriculum for community health workers to gather information about their interventions with community members.

The data will be accessible in a secure database where CHWs and researchers can measure the impact over time.
