West Hartford To Have Fun With Flags At America 250 Event This Weekend

The free celebration this weekend will feature all 27 versions of the American flag, children's freebies, songs, and some history.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — The Big Bang Theory TV show may be off the air, but Sheldon Cooper, who hosted his "Fun with Flags" online show, would love what the Town of West Hartford has planned.

West Hartford will mark the nation’s 250th anniversary with a free, family-friendly event Sunday, Feb. 15, 2026, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the West Town Hall auditorium, 50 S. Main St.

The program will feature a display of all 27 official versions of the American flag, spanning from 1776 to the present.

Organizers say attendees will learn when states were added to the union and about key events in U.S. history.

The event will also include an exhibit highlighting 100 years of service by the American Legion, as well as hourly door prize drawings and free giveaways.

Children will receive an “I Love America” activity book and can take part in two craft projects.

Programming will focus on flag history and etiquette.

Attendees can learn how to properly display the American flag and how to respectfully retire and dispose of worn flags.

A flag-folding demonstration will explain the meaning behind each of the 13 folds.

The event will feature a Civil War soldier reenactor, a display of letters written by World War I soldiers on the front lines, and presentations on the meaning of the Pledge of Allegiance and the symbolism of the stars and stripes.

A community sing-along will include “The Star-Spangled Banner,” “You’re a Grand Old Flag,” “America the Beautiful,” “This Land Is Your Land,” and “God Bless America.”
