West Hartford Health District Seeks Recipes For Community Cookbook

The West Hartford-Bloomfield Health District is collecting family recipes for a community cookbook featuring healthier substitutions.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — The West Hartford-Bloomfield Health District is inviting area residents to share favorite family recipes for a new community cookbook that will pair treasured dishes with healthier ingredient substitutions.

The project aims to preserve family recipes and the stories behind them while offering suggestions to make the dishes more heart-healthy and accommodating to a variety of dietary needs.

Residents are encouraged to submit a favorite recipe along with a brief story about who first made it and the memories associated with the dish.

As part of the submission process, contributors are also asked to identify any dietary preferences or restrictions they would like the recipe to address, including:

  • Heart-healthy
  • Diabetes-friendly
  • Low-sodium
  • Low-cholesterol

Health district staff will review each recipe and recommend healthier ingredient substitutions. Both the original recipe and the suggested modifications will be included in the published cookbook.
