West Hartford Hosting Screening Of Teen Substance Use Film This Week

WEST HARTFORD, CT — Residents are invited to a community screening and discussion of the documentary "Screenagers: Under the Influence" on Thursday, March 19, at Bristow Middle School, 34 Highland St., West Hartford.

The event, scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m., will focus on how substances such as alcohol, vaping products, and drugs are affecting teenagers.

It will be hosted by the West Hartford Prevention Partnership, West Hartford Public Schools, and West Hartford Community of Concern.

Adults and youth in sixth grade and older are invited to attend.

Organizers say the film examines the social, emotional, and developmental factors that influence teen decision-making.

The program will begin with pizza and resource tables from 6 to 6:30 p.m., followed by the film screening and a community conversation from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

According to organizers, the documentary combines scientific research with personal stories from teens and families to help students feel informed rather than judged.

The film also offers parents and educators practical guidance for starting conversations with young people about substance use.

Organizers say the goal is to help teens make healthier decisions and encourage them to seek help when needed.
