Officials emphasized the event’s historical roots, tracing the tradition to World War I veterans who established the observance in the 1920s.

The parade and ceremony are held annually on Memorial Day, the last Monday in May.

Retired Marine Sgt. Lance Corporal Conor Tracey will be honored during the parade and will serve as the keynote speaker at the town’s 11th annual inductees ceremony on May 26, recognizing graduating high school students entering military service.
