Month-Long Celebration Of Pride Starts Thursday In WeHa

WEST HARTFORD, CT — June is a significant month in the LGBTQ community as its known as Pride Month, with West Hartford pulling out all stops this month to recognize the celebration.

All month long and starting on Thursday, June 1, West Hartford will celebrate a population that, sadly, is more and more finding itself front and center of the political and social divisions ravaging the country.

It all starts on Thursday, June 1, at the Unity Green located at the corner of Farmington Avenue and South Main Street in West Hartford.

At 6:30 p.m., the pride flag will be raised during a special ceremony kicking of a month of Pride-theme events that concludes June 24 with the town's massive Pride Festival.

In between are a litany of concerts, celebrations and rallies to commemorate Pride Month as hosted by West Hartford Pride, the organization behind the month-long celebration.

Those events, among others, include:

• Thursday, June 1, Pride flag-raising ceremony, Unity Green, Farmington Avenue and South Main Street, 6:30 p.m.

• Sunday, June 4, CT Gay Men's Chorus concert at Conard High School, 110 Beechwood Road, 4 p.m.

• Friday, June 9, Pride Kickoff Party at the Gastropark (food truck park), 637 New Park Ave., 5 p.m.

• Friday, June 16, Laugh With Pride Comedy Show, New Park Brewing, 485 New Park Ave., West Hartford, 7 p.m. doors open/8 p.m. show.

• Saturday, June 24, Pride Rally and Call to Action, West Hartford Town Hall auditorium steps outside, 50 S. Main St., 11 a.m.

• Satuday, June 24, Pride Festival, West Hartford Town Hall parking lot, 50 S. Main St., West Hartford, noon.

Several other events are also being planned throughout the month, with organizers updating a website that includes all Pride Month activities in West Hartford.
