West Hartford Library To Host Patriotic Presentation From Local Photographer

WEST HARTFORD, CT — West Hartford photographer Virginia “Ginny” Kemp will present her "We the People Project" during a public program at the Noah Webster Library on Wednesday, June 3.

The event is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in the library’s meeting room at 20 S. Main St. Registration is required.

The presentation comes as the nation approaches the 250th anniversary of the United States and will highlight Kemp’s ongoing project documenting residents through portraits and interviews.

According to event organizers, the "We the People Project" focuses on everyday individuals whose courage, creativity and compassion contribute to their communities.

While centered on residents of central Connecticut, the project explores broader themes of civic engagement and community involvement.

Kemp, a portrait and documentary photographer based in West Hartford, said her work is driven by an interest in people and their stories.

Raised in Michigan, she drew early inspiration from family photographs and letters before spending years in clinical social work.

Organizers said Kemp’s background in social work and photography share common themes of listening, trust and human connection, which inform her approach to documenting community members.

The program will include a question-and-answer session with Kemp following the presentation.

River Bend Bookshop will be on-site with copies of Kemp’s book available for purchase and signing.

Residents interested in attending must register in advance through the West Hartford Public Library’s event registration system.
