West Hartford Man 1 of 2 Charged In Southington Bar Stabbing

A West Hartford man and A New Britain man have been charged in connection with a bar fight stabbing in Southington.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Police have charged two men in connection with a stabbing at a Southington Bar over the winter.

Both were served warrants on April 2, the details of which were released by authorities Thursday. The stabbing took place at the Hollywood Bar on Queen Street on Jan. 12.

Wilfredo Nieves, 44, of New Britain, was charged with first-degree assault and conspiracy to
commit first-degree assault. He posted a $300,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in New Britain Superior Court on May 4, police said.

Javier Diaz, 44, of West Hartford was charged with the same crimes, police said. He posted a $350,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in New Britain Superior Court on May 11, police said.

According to a report, at about 1:30 a.m. on Jan. 12, police responded to the Hollywood Bar after receiving a report about a fight inside the establishment.

Diaz and Nieves exchanged words with another patron and the men began fighting, according to a report.

Surverillance video shows two men falling to the floor and Diaz getting on top of the eventual "victim," according to a report. The video shows Diaz striking the man "in the front area of the upper body" four times with "a stabbing motion," according to a report.

While the victim and Diaz were still fighting on the floor, Nieves struck the man several times "with a stabbing type motion in the back," a report indicates.

Nieves and Diaz then left the bar together.

The victim had four stab wounds on his "upper front torso area" and four on his back and was transported to Hartford Hospital for treatment, according to a report. The wounds were determined to be non-life threatening, according to a report.
