West Hartford Man's Attempted Self-Amputation to be Featured on Discovery Series

Jonathan Metz will recount his ordeal on the Discovery Life Channel this weekend.

West Hartford’s Jonathan Metz, who attempted to amputate his own arm when it became wedged inside his furnace in 2010, will be featured on the Discovery Life channel on Saturday.

The Hartford Courant reports Metz will recount his ordeal on the show “The Day I Almost Died,” which is an eight-part series that includes three stories per episode about individuals who narrowly cheated death.

While Metz was unable to completely cut through his arm using power tool blades, doctors credited him with saving his own life because he prevented a gangrenous infection in the limb from spreading to the rest of his body, according to the Courant.
