West Hartford Needs Volunteers To Collect Veterans Grave Flags

The flags were planted for Memorial Day commemorations and they're being collected to be used for Veterans Day obersvances in November.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — The town's American Legion chapter is looking for help on Saturday, June 3, to collect the U.S. flags places on veterans' graves for Memorial Day weekend.

The American Legion Hayes-Velhage Post 96 will then take the collected flags and store them for Veterans Day commemorations in November.

It is hosting a flag removal effort on Saturday, June 3, at 8:30 a.m.

"Help is also needed to collect the small American flags and flag holders from the veterans’ gravesites so they can be stored and used again on Veterans Day," wrote the Town of West Hartford.

The collection is at the Fairview Cemetery management area, 200 Whitman Ave.

Volunteers can check in with the American Legion table for instructions before they start.

"If you can help, simply come. No registration needed. Many hands make light work," wrote the town.
