West Hartford Ophthalmologist Operated On Wrong Eye: Report

The ophthalmologist was recently fined by the state Medical Examining Board.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — A West Hartford ophthalmologist has been fined $15,000 by the state Medical Examining Board for operating on a patient’s wrong eye, according to the Connecticut Health I-Team.

Kate Farrish of the Connecticut Health I-Team reports Dr. Patrick F. Albergo also had his medical license reprimanded by the board for failing to comply with certain procedures and failing to maintain adequate medical records. Albergo didn’t contest the allegations.

The patient needed surgery on both eyes, but the procedures – which were done on separate days – were done in the wrong order, according to the report.
