West Hartford PD's Penguin Plunge Postponed: UPDATE

Officers were slated to participate in the WHPD's inaugural Penguin Plunge event for CT Special Olympics.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — This winter has been far from fun if you hate the snow and cold.

But, at least, folks in West Hartford will be able to see local police freeze their fannies off for a good cause, though when that will happen is up in the air for now.

The West Hartford Police Department said Thursday, Jan. 29, that weather uncertainty prompted the postponement of the department's inaugural Penguin Plunge for Connecticut Special Olympics set for Sunday, Feb. 1.

Police cited predicted snow that day or the possibility of "a snowstorm." No rescheduled date was announced.

"Due to the unexpected inclement weather and other unforeseen circumstances, we will be postponing this event for the safety of our participants, volunteers, and spectators," wrote the WHPD on Thursday. "A new date will be announced shortly, and we look forward to you joining us."

When it does happen, it will be the WHPD's first-ever Penguin Plunge and it will be held at the West Hartford Town Hall parking lot, 50 South Main St.

"Please join us in cheering on the officers as they embrace the frigid water of the mobile plunge pool in support of a great cause," wrote the WHPD before the postponement.

"If you would like to donate to this fundraiser, please use the attached link to go to the fundraiser page."

Folks can donate to the cause as a whole or scroll to the bottom and donate on behalf of an officer already registered to participate.
